The One Where Thursday Is The New Friday. PIP London 11th August

Aug 17, 2022

By Jess Macaulay PIP Host London

Dickens Inn, London

Firstly, it was fab to see some new faces at the Dickins Inn this month as we hosted a group of new PIP members who had travelled down from Reading,  (via Adam Vickers and the Reading Property Meet.) We noticed lots of property industry cross pollination, which was great to see (as well as some banter against Reading of course ;)).

Speaker 1: Paul Ribbons

Paul Ribbons Paul Ribbonstook us on a whistlestop tour of his life through his talk ‘From Baking Bread to Trading Houses’. There were some great trading insights, facts and figures. One of my key takeaways was looking globally at other markets and their activities to gauge what will filter down into the UK economy, and in turn will impact our housing market, to provide a competitive edge (as he did in early late 2019/ early 2020). If you missed it his presentation will be on The Vault, our online database of talks from members and invited speakers, which for members can be found on our here.

Speaker 2: Rod Turner

Rod Turner

Our very own Rod Turner
next provided his self-proclaimed ‘Big Sexy Resi Market Update’. Reminding us, as always to really get to grips with market figures and drill into this over time rather than get caught out with a short-term outlook. He covered ways in which to add value / uplift to purchases, given the changing and sometimes challenging state of the market, as well as liquidity and not getting caught out making all your cash work for you. As Rod will say, the devil is in the detail so if you want to hear the specifics, you’ll have to head over the The Vault, or perhaps join us in Bristol this month as he will be talking there on the 26th August at PIP Bristol.

Networking

Our members enjoyed the usual networking and problem solving, alongside discussions with our sponsors. There was a summer heatwave, so in typical London style we also enjoyed a few glasses of fizz with our networking, on a scorcher of a Thursday  – proving that Thursday is indeed the new Friday. (We have  officially moved PIP London to the second Thursday of every month.)

Our Next meeting

If you’re interested in joining us for our next meeting, get Thursday 8th of September in your diaries. Existing PIP members from other regions are also welcome. As well as our regular sponsors, networking, and masterminds, we’ll have the following speakers, and we’d love for you to join us:

  • Maxine Fothergill, ex ARLA President – “Good Property Management & Governmental Threats”
  • Phil Turtle, Compliance Director at Landlord Licensing & Defence – “Housing Enforcement, Health & Safety & Fire Regulations”

See you in September.
